How do I change my language and video caption preferences?

This article outlines how to set your preferred platform language and video captions for your Big Think+ account.

1. Locate the Language Menu

  • Go to the top right corner of any Big Think+ page.
  • You’ll see a globe icon 🌐 next to a two-letter label that indicates your current language (e.g., “EN” for English).

2. Open the Language Menu

  • Click the language button to open a drop-down menu labeled “Languages.”
  • This menu shows all available full platform translations.
  • Selecting a language here will:
    • Translate the entire platform interface.
    • Set your default captions language for videos.

3. Choose Your Platform Language

  • Click on the language you want.
  • The platform will automatically reload in your selected language.
  • Any Learner Guides and Discussion Guides will also be downloaded in your chosen language.

4. Adjust Video Captions Separately (Optional)

  • While watching a video, click the settings gear ⚙️ in the video player.
  • Under “Captions”, you can choose from all 25 available languages — even those not included in the platform-wide language list.
  • If you change captions here, it will override the captions language set in the main language menu.
  • Note: This change affects captions only; the platform language will not update.
